Transition Blues

All life depends on the sun I said.
Trying to impress her with my drunken wit.
Yeah right, that’s really going to impress her.
It was all I could think of to keep the conversation going
To keep her from calling it a night
To keep her from thinking about him
The one she can’t let go of
The one I see in her eyes
And feel in her Embrace
I tremble as my heart begins to race
Don’t force it
Don’t make a mistake
Just hold back
She’s got the transition blues.

Her heart is floating in a sky of fermented grains
And crash lands into a sea of hold back blues.
Hold back the pain
Hold back the tears
Don’t let him go
Hold back those years.

Hold back Dave
Just hold back
And take away her pain
And please don’t tell her
How you really feel.
You don’t want to lose her
She’s got the transition blues

I’ve got you my friend,
I really got you.

  1. i dearly missed your poetry, david!
i've been so compulsively absent from myspace blogreading (though i'm still happily involved with myspace for other things) that i don't know if you've been writing them and i missing them ~ or if you yourself took a sabbatical.

in any case, i find this one of your most muscular, tightly edited, and evocative poems ever!

  3. that was an interesting insight into the pain of trying to move on. A+ in your description of someone's soul that is in pain.

  4. Excuse me, I didn't know you were a poet, David. That was very powerful and evoked in me memories of being in similar situations.
